Shader Programming
These are my two projects from Shader Programming this semester. I'd never worked very much with textures on 3D objects so this was a new experience
hint: that rubix cube isn't real

Rainy Day study
I found a set of photos where scenes were photographed upside down in puddles. I loved the fuzzy look everything had, and wanted to do a quick version of it myself

space!
Next assignment in digital painting is an environment design. I'm doing the galley/living room area inside Peter and the crew's spaceship. Here's some work in progress, roughing out the scene. More to come!

Digital Painting!
I'm taking a digital painting class! To start off the projects for this semester we had to come up with a story to design characters, environments etc for. It had to be based off a classic tale so I picked Peter and the Wolf. But I decided to make it a thriller, set in space! Here's the story idea followed by several stages of progress:
Peter comes from a family of intergalactic merchants and just recently became old enough to captain his own ship. His crew consists of Cat, Duck, Bird (nicknames for his crew members) and Grandpa, the ship's AI (so named because Peter thinks it is outdated and obsolete). Cocky, and looking to make time and money on his first mission, he disregards grandpa's advice and directs the ship through an uncharted quadrant of space. Deep in the middle of nowhere their ship gets boarded by a mutated alien creature (the wolf). It kills Duck and proceeds to terrorize the rest of the crew.
Trapped in the confines of the ship and still weeks away from the nearest planet, Peter must learn to step up and be a true leader to keep the rest of his crew alive.

Ragnar emulation
Misc. stuff
3 old assignments from Character Design class. I wasn't as satisfied with the results of these, but the learning process was very valuable. In all three of these I stepped into areas I was less artistically skilled at. For example, men, men are hard to draw! So I specifically drew two male characters, and like I said before I learned a lot in the process. I had to look up a lot of reference for how other artists draw their men.
These first 2 are a hero/villain combo. One big struggle was trying to incorporate a story and some character history into each design.

Rigging!
I've been working on this 3D character all semester it's about time I show some progress, eh?
She's a cowgirl, I built her from scratch in Maya :) I'm rather fond of her long braid
Here are her animation controls. In the next week or so I will be doing an animation with her.
Here's her skeleton (Oooo rainbow colored), including a long chain of joints to control her braid

Quadraped!
First off, I DID NOT CREATE THIS CHARACTER. I just did the animating. The rig was downloaded from here: http://www.creativecrash.com/maya/downloads/character-rigs/c/koko
This was a simple walk cycle animation I did for my 3D character animation class. I'd never attempted to animate something with 4 legs, so that was a bit of a challenge. It's not perfect, but there you go.

Desert Tree Spirit

In my chracter design class we had an assignment to create a character and incorporate either clouds, rocks or trees into their design. Luckily I was down in southern Utah this weekend and surrounded by BEAUTIFUL nature! You'd be surprised by the fascinating shapes you can find in the dry, twisted, desert trees and shrubs.

Alight!
Alight from Jason Keyser on Vimeo.
^click there for bigger versionThis is a student film I helped animate this last semester and a half. I mostly did character animation on the fire boy, but also lots of effects clean-up and inbetweening.
I'm so happy to see this done! Everyone put so much hard work into it. Here's the link shown at the end of the film, check out everyone's stuff: http://www.keyserhouse.com/alight

A comic!
In my Graphic Novel Appreciation class our final project was to make a beta comic, meaning a rough draft of a comic. I decided to give a story to the western girl I designed a while ago. Obviously this comic is very rough, no backgrounds, shading, or textures...yet. I have more ideas for this story so I will probably clean this version up someday and add another chapter to it, we shall see.
