Desert Tree Spirit

In my chracter design class we had an assignment to create a character and incorporate either clouds, rocks or trees into their design. Luckily I was down in southern Utah this weekend and surrounded by BEAUTIFUL nature! You'd be surprised by the fascinating shapes you can find in the dry, twisted, desert trees and shrubs.

This is a student film I helped animate this last semester and a half. I mostly did character animation on the fire boy, but also lots of effects clean-up and inbetweening.

A comic!

In my Graphic Novel Appreciation class our final project was to make a beta comic, meaning a rough draft of a comic. I decided to give a story to the western girl I designed a while ago. Obviously this comic is very rough, no backgrounds, shading, or textures...yet. I have more ideas for this story so I will probably clean this version up someday and add another chapter to it, we shall see.

The God of Thunder! I saw the Thor movie recently and it was pretty rad, this is a much more old-school Thor look.

The Magic Flute

These designs were done as a favor to a friend who is in charge of this charity event called the Princess Festival. This year one part of the festival will include a kid's version of The Magic Flute. Since people are less familiar with it than the normal Disney fairy tales my friend asked if I could do some slightly Disneyfied characterizations to help the actors. It was a fun challenge.

Recently I've been really getting into western movies, especially Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns. I did this character design just for fun, have I mentioned how nice it is to just draw something for fun?

Haven't posted anything for a while. I'm taking a few spring semester classes, one of which is a 2D Animation class taught by the amazing Cynthia Hogan. First assignment was to animate a character lifting a rock. It had to be animated on paper, oh man, I was very out of practice with that old technology. Next assignment I can use Flash again (a lovely computer program for 2D animating). Obviously this is very rough, I may go back and fix some parts

Dooom!!

I decided to give you all a little Invader Zim for fanart friday. I have to admit I don't like the show that much, but I do love the character designs. They are so stylized and unique. Oh, and the voice actors are pretty awesome too, especially Gir's (the little robot).

Jack and the Beanstalk

Here's a lengthy post for you. The semester is over and I finally finished all my work for my concept design class. The entire semester has been devoted to Jack and the Beanstalk stuff and I feel like I've learned a LOT. But quite frankly, I've had enough, I'm done, and I'm happy. So without further ado, here's my work

My final project for a 3D animation class. The audio is from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I lost more sleep over this project than I should have, and I'm still not completely happy with it. But a lot of things about it worked well

I've never been good at making environments, so I am very proud of this piece! It's Jack's bedroom, made for my concept design class. Random bit of info, while designing this I kept imagining that the rug on the floor was a polar bear pelt. It worked in my head, then I realized how incongruous it would be to the Jack and the Beanstalk story. Oh well.

Megamind!

Extremely handsome master of all villainy! He's my pick for Fanart Friday. I just have to say I love this movie, its got a great story, witty dialog, and fantastic characters! I may have to do some doodles of Megamind with Minion, they have a great bromance going on. This is one of the few movies that I can watch over and over again, and believe me, I have :)

Pi day!

Jack and the Beanstalk

I've been taking a concept design class this semester. All of our assignments are centered around designing the look of a Jack and the Beanstalk story, as if we were going to make it into a film. Despite taking up a lot of my time it's been super helpful and kind of fun :) These are some of my favorite designs from that class

Animated stuff!

Oooo, look, it moves! These are two animation assignments I did for a class recently. Both were done using Maya, which I'm still getting the hang of. I'm pretty fond of the lego guy. The turtle is just a lip-synching assignment, so that's why he doesn't have fancy colors (or a body).

Fan art Friday (work in progress)

Doctor Who! My pick for fan art Friday. It was nice to work on something just for fun and not for a grade. Pressure sensitivity won't work in photoshop today so I'm going to do real linework and shading later...hopefully. No, I will.

So this last semester I learned to use Maya for the first time! Behold me 3D projects, you may laugh at how bad they are. But I'm excited, I'm starting to get the hang of this program
